Firm Fundraising

Funding Needs

VLS is a non-profit 501( c )(3) corporation. Even though volunteer attorneys provide most of our services, there are still related costs that we must cover. In addition, we continually receive compelling requests for new types of legal services that we would like to have the resources to provide. Although grants take care of some of the costs, we rely on donations for the majority of our budget and hold several fundraisers each year.

Fundraisers

Firm Fundraising – each spring, we contact local law firms and ask for support. In 2005, 54 firms agreed to help with our funding.

Phone-a-Thon – each fall, members of our Board of Directors individually call each attorney in Travis County and ask for support. In 2005, 464 attorneys responded to our request for donations.

Bar and Grill - each fall, we offer a night of entertainment at the Paramount Theater. A group of talented local attorneys write and perform a comedy review. Proceeds from ticket and ad sales supplement our budget.

Individual Donations

As you can see, we rely heavily on donations from the legal community, but our activities benefit all citizens of Central Texas.
