Also has an excellent pro se divorce handbook that gives definitions for common legal terms used in family law, forms that can be used to file for divorce if you cannot afford a lawyer, and more.   2. National Domestic Violence Hotline: Visit www.ndvh.org.
  3. Texas Attorney General: Information on child support collection, crime victims (including domestic and sexual assault victims), senior and consumer issues, such as scams and identity theft.   4. Texas Council on Family Violence: Information on domestic violence and getting a waiver of fees to establish electric, telephone, and gas service for victims of domestic violence. Visit www.tcfv.org, click on legal advocacy, click on forms and information.
  5. The Women’s Advocacy Project: Information on protective orders and family violence. Also have statewide family violence hotline, family law hotline, and sexual assault hotlines. Visit www.womens-law.org for information and hotline numbers.
  6. Travis County Attorney’s Office: If you are in need of a protective order in Travis County, contact the Travis County Attorney’s Office at (512) 854-4163 to schedule an appointment.
Attorney Referral Sources
  1. Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas: Provides referrals to attorneys in central Texas. The referral service is free. The attorneys will charge for their services. If you are low-income and need help with a family law matter or will, you might qualify for referral to an attorney who has agreed to take cases at a reduced rate.   2. State Bar of Texas: Statewide referral service. The referral service is free. The attorneys will charge for their services.   3. Legal Aid Offices: For very low-income individuals who cannot afford an attorney only.
