Auction of Art by Local Attorney-Artists to Raise Money for Legal Aid
For Immediate Release
Some Austin attorneys work as well with canvas as they do with legal documents. On February 8 from 5:30–7:30 pm, attorneys will auction their works of art to their peers and the community. “Austin Attorney Art”, a silent bidding auction, takes place at Lakeside Mediation Center, 3825 Lake Austin Boulevard. The event is free and open to the public and benefits Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas.
Types of art shown include oil, pastels, carving, sculpture, quilts, and even a handmade bass guitar.
A few of the attorney-artists are:
• Phil Durst practices employment and civil rights law with the firm of Deats, Durst, Owen & Levy, and has been an adjunct law professor at U.T. Law School since 1999. His collages are usually based upon everyday packages and products and often have a quilt-like quality. This series is made from cardboard candy and soda boxes.
• Charles Moster, a business lawyer at Moster Wynne, has developed a unique style that combines sculpture and abstract art. The paintings are grand in scale and make a bold statement.
• Cindy Stapper is a bankruptcy attorney at the Law Offices of Michael Baumer and enjoys working in oils and pastels of landscapes and still life. Her works show colors that are saturated and amplified to express certain moods or feelings.
