Why Give?
Your support will
help provide legal assistance to thousands of low-income
people in our community each year. Your donation
will help improve the lives of our clients in many ways, including:
- Ending abusive relationships
- Getting medical and financial aid
to disabled persons
- Avoiding homelessness by preventing wrongful
evictions and foreclosures
Your contribution also brings
dollars directly to the pockets of our clients. In 2005,
our clients obtained $3,190,059 in monthly and lump
sum awards as a result of our pro bono legal services. And your gift will be matched ten-fold
by attorney volunteers who donated their time, valued
at $4,391,716 in 2005, to assist our clients.
Where Does My Money Go?
VLS is a small 501 (c)(3) non-profit
organization of six employees, yet we helped over
5400 people last year at a cost of less than $68
per client. Approximately 87% of funds go to helping
our clients with their civil legal problems. Only
9% of our budget is spent on administrative costs
and 4% on fundraising.
