Leading Early, Serving Always: The Susan P. Burton Legacy

Susan P. Burton is a dedicated private attorney and bar leader whose commitment to pro bono service began early in her legal career. As a young attorney, she actively provided legal assistance to low-income individuals and worked to foster a legal community in Central Texas that supports and encourages pro bono work. A former board member and long-time volunteer with Volunteer Legal Services, Susan has been a driving force in expanding access to justice in the region. The Susan P. Burton Award is presented annually to a volunteer attorney who has been licensed for five years or less and has demonstrated exceptional dedication to pro bono service. This award recognizes the attorney who has taken the most cases, exemplifying the spirit of service and community leadership that Susan Burton has championed throughout her career.
